Please see below updated guidance with regard to school attendance and the current Coronavirus situation.
Non-attendance due to self-isolation:
If a child is unable to attend school due to self-isolation, has developed a new continuous cough and/or a high temperature, then please reinforce the message regarding self-isolation for 7 days. If symptoms worsen parents should seek advice from NHS 111 online or by calling 111. If there is a risk to someone in the family with a severe medical condition in accordance to the advice from DoHSC and Public Health England the child should also be recorded as a Y code.
Non-attendance due to the fear of contracting the virus:
Some families may choose to self-isolate as a protective factor. Schools should make an informed decision based on the circumstance of the family. If schools feel that this is an exceptional circumstance a C code (authorised circumstance) should be used. Where there is no real evidence of the need to self-isolate schools may choose to use the O code (unauthorised absence).
Where a pupil cannot attend school due to illness, as would normally happen, the I code should be recorded. (authorised absence).
