Volunteer to Become a School Appeals Panel Member

Are you interested in education?  Do you have free time during the day?  Would you like to contribute to your local community?  If so, then becoming a school appeal panel member could be a really rewarding experience for you, and Warrington Council is currently seeking volunteers to join its Independent Education Appeal Panels in the following categories:-

  • Lay People i.e. someone without any personal experience in the management of any school or the provision of education in any school (except as a school governor or in another voluntary capacity); and

  • People who have experience in education, who are familiar with educational conditions in the Warrington area, or who are parents of Registered Pupils at a school.

You do not need any specific experience to apply as appropriate training will be provided, and all hearings will be supported by an experienced clerk.  However, excellent listening skills and the ability to make balanced and objective decisions would be an advantage.

The work is voluntary and unpaid, but Panel Members are eligible to receive travel expenses for all meetings they attend.  The majority of meetings are held during the day at the Town Hall, and refreshments and parking are provided.

If you are interested in becoming a panel member, please contact Graham Canning, Clerk to the School Admission Appeals Panel, West Annexe to the Town Hall, Sankey Street, Warrington, WA1 1UH.
