October is International walk to school month which is an initiative led by Living Streets, a UK based charity who promote everyday walking. This is an annual event which is an ideal opportunity to focus on the health benefits of walking, cycling and scooting to school and the associated benefits of relieving congestion at the school gate, creating a safer and altogether more pleasant environment in the school vicinity. However as the mornings and evenings are getting increasingly darker it is also a good time to highlight to the children the importance of wearing bright clothing, using lights on their bikes and keeping safe on their journeys to and from school. A good time too to remind parents of the impact on the school environment and the air quality around school when they idle their vehicles whilst waiting for their children and how they can support this by switching off their engines.
If any school would like support to promote walk to school month, be seen be safe, improving the air quality around schools with class lessons or an assembly please contact me at email@example.com
